They fit existing workflows rather than demanding new ones. Tools that worked within developers' IDEs, security teams' existing dashboards, or management's current reporting cycles got adopted organically.
They reduced cognitive load rather than adding to it. The best tools made decisions easier, not harder. They provided clear, actionable insights instead of more data to analyze.
They earned trust gradually through consistent accuracy rather than overwhelming features. Teams started trusting tools that rarely cried wolf, even if they caught fewer total issues.
The Uncomfortable Truth
The conversation that stuck with us most was with a CISO who said: "I've learned that most security tools are built by engineers for engineers, sold by salespeople to executives, and used by operations teams who had no say in the purchase. Everyone's optimizing for different success metrics."
That disconnect - between those who buy, those who build, and those who actually use security tools - might be the real reason so many end up abandoned.
The Question That Matters

If the answer isn't immediately obvious, or if it depends on "proper training" or "organizational change management," he passes.
